Front Door Refinishing in Fulshear, TX
Is the Texas sun cooking your front door? We strip, stain, or paint it back to looking like new — usually without replacing a thing.
Front Door Refinishing by Saint George
Sun-Faded Front Doors Restored in Fulshear
Your front door is the first thing guests touch. It should look as good as the rest of the house.
Your front door takes more sun than any other wood on the house. On west- and south-facing entries around Fulshear, the stain dries out, fades to orange or gray, and starts to crack within a few summers. One customer told us her door was "very dry from the Texas heat and the scorching sun." After we refinished it, she said it looked like new.
Most doors don't need replacing — they need real prep. We take off the hardware, protect the glass and brick, strip the old finish, and sand down to clean wood. Then we stain or paint, and seal it with a clear coat made for outdoor sun. Emeil does this work himself, and he'll tell you honestly if a door is past saving.

Front Door Warning Signs
Front Door Damage We See Across Fort Bend
Sun and humidity wear a wood door down in ways that are easy to spot once you know what to look for.
-
Stain Faded to Orange or Gray
Sunlight breaks down stain until the wood looks washed out, blotchy, and years older than it is.
-
Cracked, Peeling Clear Coat
Once the top coat cracks, water gets under it and the finish starts lifting off in sheets.
-
Dry, Rough Wood Grain
Raised, splintery grain means the wood is thirsty. Sanding and fresh stain bring it back smooth.
-
Dark Spots Near the Bottom
Rain and humidity soak the lower rail first. We treat it before wood rot has a chance to start.
-
A Front Door That Sticks or Rubs
Gumbo soil shifts door frames over time. We adjust hinges and the strike so the door closes clean.
Front Door Refinish Steps
How We Refinish Your Front Door
Four careful steps — the prep is where a lasting finish really comes from.
-
Door Condition Check
We look at the wood, the finish, and the sun exposure, then write up a clear estimate.
-
Stain or Paint Color Pick
Choose a stain tone or paint color. We bring samples to see against your brick and trim.
-
Strip, Sand, and Repair
Hardware comes off, glass gets taped, and the old finish is stripped down to bare wood.
-
Seal Coat and Hardware Reinstalled
We seal the door with an exterior clear coat, reinstall the hardware, and look it over with you.
Fort Bend Front Door Care
Why Fulshear Front Doors Wear Out Fast
A front door here deals with a lot more than foot traffic. These are the local reasons finishes fail.
West and South Exposure
Doors that face the afternoon sun fade fastest. We set a shorter recoat schedule for those entries.
Humid Gulf Summers
Moisture swells bare wood and lifts old finish. Sealing every edge, top and bottom, keeps it out.
Builder-Grade Stained Doors
Plenty of 1990s and 2000s homes in Cinco Ranch and First Colony still have their original stained doors.
HOA Door Color Rules
Some Fort Bend HOAs limit front door colors. We help you pick from the approved list.
Leaded and Oval Glass
Oval leaded glass and sidelites are taped and covered so no stain or sander ever touches them.
Hardware and Weatherstrip
We remove handles and kick plates so the finish goes on clean, and point out worn weatherstrip.

Front Door Questions
Front Door Refinishing FAQs
How often does a stained front door need refinishing in Texas?
It depends on how much sun hits it. A shaded door under a deep porch can go several years between coats. A door facing west or south in Fulshear may need a fresh clear coat every year or two. Catching it early is far easier than stripping it later.
Should I stain my front door or paint it?
Stain shows off the wood grain and suits doors with nice wood or leaded glass. Paint gives you a bold color, hides old wear, and usually holds up longer in hard sun. If your HOA limits door colors, we'll check the approved list together before you pick.
Do you take the front door off its hinges to refinish it?
It depends on the door and the finish. Some jobs go best with the door down on sawhorses, and others we do right in the frame. Either way, we plan the work so your door is hung, closing, and locking at the end of each day.
Can a sun-cracked front door be saved, or does it need replacing?
Most sun-damaged wood doors can be saved. Cracked finish, fading, and rough grain usually come off with stripping and sanding. If the wood itself is split through or rotted at the bottom, we'll show you and tell you honestly whether refinishing is worth the money.
Do you refinish double doors and doors with glass?
Yes. Double doors, sidelites, and doors with oval or leaded glass are common in Fort Bend homes. We tape and cover every pane carefully before sanding or staining, then clean the glass when we're done so the whole entry looks finished.
